***NERD ALERT WARNING ON THIS POST***
Google’s mission is to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
As well as being a pretty impressive, confronting and inspiring mission, it makes sense of all the ‘crazy’ Google innovations – self driving car, google glass etc.
But I was flawed to watch this rad clip on Google’s involvement with Quantum Artificial Intelligence – make sure you watch it to the end.
A mate Michael Fox introduced me to the idea of ‘The Singularity‘ many years ago. Singularity is the theoretical moment in time when artificial intelligence exceeds human intelligence, at which point the future course of human history is unpredictable or even unfathomable. If machines become smarter than us, then they can outthink us – quite Matrix-y. I’d always discredited this theory slightly because it relied on the assumption that AI will continue to progress at a certain rate and not taper out hence overtaking humans. But this video glimpse into Google and NASA’s investment into quantum AI makes the future, and potential point of singularity, seem contemplatable.
It’s also perfectly on-mission for Google, which I think is awesome.
